I am a canadian living in the UK with my Irish boyfriend. We met while he was living in Canada. I am planning to sponsor him to move to back to Canada next year.
There is one issue that concerns me about getting him PR status:
When he came to Canada he did so as a tourist. His passport was stamped on entry (September 2007) and they wrote in it he could stay until March 2008, basically 6 months.

We didn't meet until June 2008 and he stayed until September 2008. When we give details of our relationship it will become clear that he over stayed his welcome. Is this likely to be problematic?

Any info welcome!

Once he left Canada he was back in compliance so, no, it will not affect his permanent resident application. In fact, he was only visiting Canada and there is not even a requirement that he disclose that on the application. Where it asks for a list of addresses over the past years, it's asking for permanent addresses . . . not visiting addresses. This is not an issue that even comes up on the application.

Now, you will be mentioning that you met in June 2008, in Canada, and that he left Canada in September . . . and the relationship developed from that point on, etc., etc. No need there to mention anything about him having entered Canada in March 2008 and overstaying to be with you, and they're not concerned with looking into that. It's immaterial.
