Outland Spousal Sponsorship - Sponsor leaving the country

Hi everyone! Just got a question -

Can the Canadian Sponsor leave Canada to visit the Spouse (PA) while the process is ongoing? Let's say the Sponsor already got approved as Sponsor from CIC AND the application is already in the Visa Office of the Principal Applicant. Will this affect the application in any way?

If sponsor is a citizen - they can come and go as they please.

If sponsor is a PR - they must remain in Canada while the app is processing.

They don’t need to remain in Canada if it is Outland......

They do if they are a PR. Occasional short trips outside of Canada are OK (i.e. 2-3 weeks every once and a while). Anything longer - and you risk the application being refused for non-residency.
