Hello as mentioned in a previous post I will be sponsoring my U.S. husband for Canadian PR. I was born and lived most of my life in Canada but married an US citizen and have been living in the US for around 18 yrs. I have obtained US citizenship as well. I am just at the initial stages of investigating what I need and also trying to obtain answers to some of my questions. I have attempted to do a search on this fabulous forum, but it is overwhelming - seems everyone has a different question and situation.

So my questions are:
1) My Canadian passport has expired. Do I need to renew my Canadian passport to sponsor my husband. I have my birth certificate. My husband has both his birth certificate and his US passport. This leads into question 2)
2) My Dad is not well in Canada (thus the move up there), if we need to travel back and forth to care for him while the application(s) are being processed is that okay? Should I be using a Canadian Passport rather than my U.S. one during the processing period
3) Also last question more to do with the medical - my husband has mild dementia short term memory loss - so I act as his memory when it comes to his medical history. Will I be allowed in the exam room with him during the medical in case they ask him questions ?
4) Related to questi0n 3) if during the medical they know he has dementia will this be reported and could this potentially be a reason not to approve him for PR status?

Although some of these may be no brainers your expertise would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance
P

1) A photocopy of your birth certificate would suffice for your sponsorship app. (Document Checklist, item #13).
2) Since your husband will be applying Outland, there's no travel restrictions for the two of you between Canada and the U.S. It doesn't really matter which passport you use, although have the Canadian one renewed MIGHT make the entry easier.
3) I was allowed to be present for my wife's medical exam. To my knowledge it is a rudimentary physical exam (non-gynecological) that checks for symptoms of serious contagious illnesses.
4) Mild dementia would not be considered a serious illness for the purposes of the PR app. They are particularly looking for conditions that would be considered a threat to the general population, or one that could put a potential strain on our medical resources.
