Hi all, been a while since I was here. I'm hoping someone here has an answer for a question a friend of mine has.

Since COVID-19 is a big issue in the U.S., my friend, a U.S. citizen who has already had their outland spousal application approved, travelled up to Canada with their Canadian citizen spouse a few days ago. They faced a little extra scrutiny because of the pandemic, but were allowed in without too much fuss. Question is, what should my friend do about the landing interview? To be clear, to my knowledge no landing appointment has been given. They're understandably concerned. Any clarity would be much appreciated. Thanks!

What do you mean by "already had the application approved"? Does he have his COPR yet?

Once he has his COPR, he will need to travel to a land boarder to complete landing formalities.

My wife is in the same position. She is American, came to Canada on an IEC in September, we applied outland in December. Got our PPR earlier this month, passport was received on March 17. Haven't heard anything since. We live in Newfoundland and so there would be a lot of travel and potential exposure involved in going back to a border to land when we finally get COPR, which would put me as a healthcare provider on the front line of this epidemic, and my patients, at risk if she were to be exposed.

Hi

1. It appears that you would be wasting your time going to the Border to "land". Here is what CBSA has posted.

Travellers
Work permit, study permit and confirmation of permanent residence requests

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Immigration services
Travel for the purpose of obtaining immigration services is non-essential. If you are in Canada, and are seeking to travel to the border in order to make an application for a work permit, study permit or permanent residence, you are asked to consider federal and provincial guidelines for self-isolation and social distancing. Do not travel to the border for these services until further notice. If you are currently in Canada as a visitor, student or worker, you can apply online to IRCC to extend your temporary resident status. By doing so, you can continue to stay, study or work in Canada while your application is being processed. This is referred to as implied status, and as long as you apply before your current document expires, your current immigration authorizations and conditions remain unchanged. In-Canada services are available through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.

Sorry the the delayed response and confusion. Both PR applicant and sponsor have had their applications approved, and I imagine got COPR. I believe they were only waiting for their landing appointment... Hope that makes sense.
