I am a Canadian citizen and my boyfriend is Irish. He has been living in Canada on a work permit for the past 2 years. We have lived together for the last year (joint lease) and been in a relationship for almost 2 years. His visa is up April 4 and we are going to move to Ireland for the year as we heard applying outside Canada is quicker. We move March 30 and will send the application the first week of April from Ireland if we have everything in order.

A few questions if anyone can help...

1. Can we get the upfront medical examination from Canada or do we need to wait till we are in Ireland and get it done and sent from there?
2. As for me proving I will return to Canada after he gets PR, does a car loan that I will keep and pay for the year I am gone help at all?

Thanks for any advice or tips you can give!

Just so you know, a person can be IN Canada and submit an outland app. There is no need to move to Ireland in order to apply.

1. He can do the medical anywhere as long as it's with a Panel Physician. It's valid for a year, so it's advisable to do it as close to submission date as possible.

2. That will help but probably not be sufficient. You'll want to include letters from family/friends confirming your return, evidence of a job search, looking for a place to live etc.

Thanks for your great advice!

We were told that we can remain in Canada but thought that we might as well take this time to travel.
1.So does this mean that even though we plan to start travelling March 31, can we submit the application before we go?

2. I will have notarized letters from friends and family. Also a letter confirming that upon our return we will be staying at my parents house rent free until we get a job. I am wondering as I won't be a resident of Ireland, still a resident of Canada do I need to worry about all of this? I will leave all of my possessions at my parents. Wondering if I should just book my flight back now and send that in as proof? Any tips?

Thanks again!!

1. Yes, you can submit it from here.

2. It doesn't matter that you won't be a resident of Ireland. You will be outside Canada and need to show that you are coming back. Note that they will want to see that you plan to return to Canada immediately upon PR approval. London processing times average around 8 months right now, so factor that in for when you plan to submit. It could cause problems if CIC, or CBSA during the landing, believed that you weren't actually moving back to Canada for awhile.

1. If we were to submit it from Canada in say March, with ever full intent to spend the year abroad (flights booked Mar 30) what would I put as my address? We know where we will be staying in Ireland but realistically we won't be there yet. Work ends March 25, so I can't say I am unemployed (even though I will be after that). Just confused about this all....

2. If I was to email a recruiter about a job now...for in say, 12 months...would I send proof of that in? I will have savings in a Canadian Bank account that will be waiting for us when we get back. Does that help? I feel like I have enough to prove that the only reason I am not in Canada is so that we aren't separated for the duration of the application and that I will be back as soon as we get the notification he is approved but I obviously want every little thing I can get.

Can't thank you enough for all your help!! :)

The only problem with pre-booking your return flight is you don't actually know when he will get PR... some people who applied at the same time as me (September) have already landed!

Maybe you should just apply now before you go, put your parents address as your mailing address and don't mention that you plan to MOVE to ireland... if anything you could just be 'traveling' while you wait to get the visa which isn't a problem as far as I know...

That is true. I have everything I believe I need, but you know yourself that it might not be enough! Just trying to think of anything extra that might help in showing my intent to move back.

Honestly like I said I don't think you should call it moving, I think you better apply while you are still in Canada, leave your parents canadian address for mail, and then your time in Ireland should just be travels not an official "move"... I have the same thing with my partner, we were in Canada and applied before his visa ran out... now we are going to 'travel' until he gets his visa...

If the visa is issued quickly, as it may be, this would probably work. If the visa officer finds out you are traveling, lets say for a year, he or she will then ask for proof the sponsor is planning to move back to Canada.
