Outland application questions

Hello! I am new to this process and hoping to receive some answers to questions I haven't been able to figure out by reading through this very helpful forum.

I am a Canadian citizen. I have not lived in Canada since 1996 -- I left to go to graduate school in the USA and then got my Green Card and remained there until October 2007. At that point I accepted a job in Bangkok, Thailand which is where I met my soon to be husband. He is a British citizen living in Thailand.

We want to apply for his PR while still in Southeast Asia and spend time travelling while we wait for it to be approved.

Neither one of us has any guarantee of a job when we eventually arrive in Canada. We're investigating the possibility of starting up our own business. We plan to stay with family and friends until we find housing of our own, the location of which will depend upon where we work. We have put away enough money to support ourselves in Canada for at least six months after we arrive.

I haven't filed taxes in Canada since I left the country. Is this going to be an issue?

How should we go about proving our intent to live and work in Canada? I haven't been there in over a decade and he has never been. We can't secure employment without knowing when we'll actually be allowed to enter the country and work legally.

Lastly, there doesn't seem to be a place to submit the paperwork in Thailand. Can anyone with experience in Southeast Asia explain how we would go about the process?

Thank you so much in advance for any help you can give me. I'm sure some of these questions seem very obvious to those of you with experience and I appreciate your willingness to help out a newbie!

Hi BKKandy - my wife (canadian) is in the same situation as you are. We have already applied and as proof of returning she has letters detailing what she has been doing and will be doing to find a job in Canada. Also, she has a letter from a potential employer stating they will hire her as she returns. Also we have letters from family and friends in Canada stating they will help us out for the first month or so with housing etc. As for the tax returns - she also included a letter explaining why she hasn't filed any taxes in Canada for the past years. Will all this be an issue? I don't know until her sponsorship application has been processed. I will post the results here once I know. Good luck.
