:D My Husband and I got married in September 2013. We are now filling out the application for outland cuz it seems better and faster. I remember reading about a year ago on this forum..that if you apply outland when you arrive as PR and land, to work all you had to do was to apply for your sin# and start working. And then I asked the question awhile ago and someone confirmed it.(http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/usa-married-a-canadian-citizen-t164174.0.html;msg2558712#msg2558712) ??? Now I'm reading that you can't...you can only get an open work permit through inland. Is that correct? Did the rules changed or was I mis-informed? If that the case we might have to re-think our plans and apply inland. :(

An open work permit for INLAND is totally different from the SIN# you get when your OUTLAND application is finally processed and accepted. You get an open work permit after the first stage of inland application. Outland applications do not qualify for the OWP, BUT, once stage 1 and 2 are done and he is accepted for permanent residency, he can get a SIN# and work in Canada like a Canadian.

edit: sorry, I thought your husband was the american, but after reading the previous post, you are. So you would get a SIN# once your outland application is all finished. You won't be able to work in Canada during the application process though.

THANK YOU SOOO MUCH FOR REPLYING SOO QUICKLY :)

Clarification? So after my application is done and I am accepted as a PR and land, I can get my sin# and work like a Canadian?

Our plan is for me to stay in the states and work and visit him during the process. He lives in Toronto and it's very expensive to live there. I have a freelance job in the states that pays deceit, so its easier for me to budget my fiances and visit him for long periods of time instead of him visiting me.

No problem, I'm in the exact same situation as you, but my husband is American. So yes, once you get PR and land, you can apply for a sin# same day - I've read of the forum that it doesn't take long at all.
I also live in Toronto, and my husband comes up from Arkansas to visit me.. it's much easier that way!

Thanks soo much. :)
