Hello,

I am about to send my application off to Canada!! Very excited. My common-law partner of 3 years and I are processing as an outland application (Although we are moving to Canada next month as she will have a 1 year working visa IEC). I have a final few questions to double/triple check before I send it away.

Q1, When providing proof of relationship it asks for "at least two Statutory declarations from individuals with person knowledge of you relationship supporting your claim" - Do there letters need to be notified by anyone ie, a lawyer? I asked a lawyer friend and he said it was strange to get this certified. Is it simply enough to have it signed by the friend? Any help clarifying this would be great.

Q2, I am applying to sponsor my common-law partner, we both have no dependents do I need to provide tax information and/or proof of income? I am getting mixed messages when I read other peoples questions on this forum

Q3, This will sound silly. As I am processing outland do I still send my application to the address in Canada or do I send it to my local processing office in New Zealand?

Many thanks for any help with these last few questions, this forum has be a MASSIVE help of the last few months of getting everything together, I can't wait to join a timesheet and start my waiting game.

1. Yes - the letters need to be notarized. Otherwise they are not statutory declarations but simply letters.
2. Yes - you must provide proof of income regardless of whether you have dependents or not. This is a required supporting document per the document checklist.
3. You must send the entire application package to the Mississauga office.

I can understand your confusion about whether to provide proof of income. The answer is indeed yes, you MUST provide that information, however it will not have an effect on your ability to sponsor if you don't make a certain amount of money. I hope that helped to clarify at least that part of it. Oh, and the other two question, are both Yes as well LOL

Proof of income when a child is not involved is not calculated based on how much it would cost to care for a child or more, but simply that you have enough funds to support yourselves. If you have money saved, show proof of that, if you have a job waiting for you in anada, show proof of that, if none of the previous listed have your parents write a letter and get it signed (not notarized) that they are willing to support you unto you find a job.
