Hi there, I'm Canadian and my husband is Irish. We currently live in Dublin. I sent our application from Dublin by registered post (I really wish I would have sent it by courier!) on the 21st of April. Anyone have any experience applying from Dublin? Any idea how long it might be before I hear anything? Any experience with how long it might take? We have a ten month old daughter and I would really love to be back in Canada by Christmas as she is the first grandchild and great-grandchild on my side of the family and I'd love for my grandma to spend that time with her. Thanks very much in advance! :D

I also made the mistake of sending mine by registered mail. It took 3 weeks to actually arrive at CPC Mississauga. I only know that as I sent it as 'signed for'. I didn't get AOR from CPC for a further three weeks. All pretty normal timescales.

I do not know for certain, but I believe (happy to be corrected) that Eire applications are normally processed in London (UK) (but with Ottawa also being used for erstwhile London applications where Ottawa acts as an overflow).

If it is London / Ottawa, please refer to the timescales in the spreadsheet link in my signature line. Maybe 5 months for Ottawa or 8 months for London (based on the last 20 decisions). Could of course be longer. So I would say that Christmas is possible but tight and I wouldn't bank on it.

While the PR app might not be processed by Christmas, it is perfectly fine for you guys to come to Canada while it is in process.

Yes I know we can definitely visit, we go back at least once a year, but I'm just hoping to be home for good sooner rather than later. A visit is never the same! I had a ridiculously tough pregnancy and recovery after, as well as our daughter having meningitis at two months old, and I think I'm just home sick and wanting to be back as soon as possible, I miss my family so much! When I was speaking with the embassy about my daughters Canadian citizenship certificate they said the certificate and PR would probably take about the same amount of time (about 6 months) so I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed that they are right. Thanks for the reply! :D

Thanks very much for that! That's kind of what I had in my head, that it might be about six weeks before we the the AOR so hopefully it won't be too much longer than that. I was hoping to have my application in sooner but had to wait on my 2016 NOA. Thanks for the reply :)

I don't mean for a visit. You can essentially move back to Canada, even though your husband would only be entering as a visitor until his PR app is finished.

Also, you can apply for a limited validity Canadian passport for your child based on the fact that you've applied for a Certificate of Citizenship.

Oh wow, I had no idea I could do that. I'll definitely look into the passport for my daughter. Originally my husband and I had planned on doing that, arriving with him as a visitor, but when I mentioned this a couple of months ago to the woman I've been speaking with at the Canadian embassy here she said she wouldn't advise doing that. We just assumed it wasn't an option then but I'll definitely look into it again if it means we could be home sooner. Thanks very much!

It is most definitely an option. Many people, including my partner and I, have done this. You can get a lot of misleading advice from embassy staff or the IRCC Call Centre, as they don't actually process applications or deal with such situations.

What do you say when you arrive in Canada? That you are just arriving as a visitor and have a PR application pending? Sorry if these are stupid questions I just have no idea about any of this and I don't want to do anything wrong that could jeopardize his application. Do you contact CIC then and let them know that you are living in Canada? Thanks for all this info

Your husband will say that he is coming to visit his family while his sponsorship app processes. It is a very common situation. He shouldn't use words like "moving" or "living", as he will still be just a visitor. He should carry proof of the PR app and proof of funds.

This will have no impact on the app. Once in Canada, he can just update his address with IRCC.

Not a stupid question at all!

It is called 'dual intent'. Have a read here:

http://britishexpats.com/wiki/Spous...y_application_is_being_processed:_Dual_Intent

Basically, he can tell them he is landing under 'dual intent' and has the paperwork mentioned in the wiki page above. They should give him a visitors visa for 3 / 6 or 12 months (at their discretion), which depending on when you go, should be plenty of time to get your CoPR through - of course he will not be able to work until has activates his CoPR, but nothing to stop him finding out about jobs in the meantime. He will need to demonstrate clear remaining ties with Ireland (keeps a place where he lives - even if it is with parents, has a return ticket, only has suitcases with stuff you would expect people to have on a visit etc.).

People entering Canada to become PRs are landing. He will just be arriving as a visitor.

He will not be granted a visitor visa. He will be granted visitor status, which is something very different.
