i'm new to this forum need your help,
i recently got approved for pr. got visa issued also.
my wife is the primary applicant, she is on h-1 visa.
i'm out of status in US for a long time, we have two kids both US citizens.
we are planning to land in august, we are going to drive thru detroit.
do you think us customs & border will give me problem.
please i need your help

No, because you don't stop at the US border going North.

Nope, doesn't have to stop, only cars as they have to be exported.

I have not migrated to Canada yet, Z.
if your car's papers (registration, insurance, license plates) are current, just donate it to a charity.
End of story. Otherwise you may have to pay disposal fees

thanks subatomic i will look into that, but my car is fairly new,
i have thought of something correct me if i'm wrong,
what if we put our car in goods to follow list and after we get our pr,say within a month or so, just drive upto the border to export the car.
will that work??????????

I know this is not my topic but this question is related to it. Ok, I'm out of status in the U.S. but the principal applicant and owner of the car is my partner (a U.S. Citizen) would I get in trouble if we export the car since I'll be with her.

Hello everyone.


I am almost in same situation as Z4U2. In my case my wife is an American Citizen and I have overstayed my visa. The car is under her name.

Can she go by herself to export the car at the US customs & border and then come back to pick me up? I do not want to take any chances.

Can we just drive through the Canadian immigration and later export the car when we are already in Canada?

Does anyone know what are the fees associated in exporting a used car?

Are the fees any different comparing to a Canadian citizen wanting to buy a car from the US and then bring back home to Canada?
