Orphan relative sponsorship

Hi There
I am already in Canada as a skilled ,this forum help me a great deal , My case was finalized in 2015 and the PR was issued for me and my family in March 2015.We did the landing in December 2015 and we returned to Europe. We finally came to settle in February
My wife's brother just lost his wife in Africa leaving a 7 year old girl. My wife would like to sponsor that child since her brother could not look after her with work obligations Would she qualified as an orphan relative in a family class?
Anybody with info ? please help

Unfortunately, In my opinion, with your wife's brother still being alive, she isn't an orphan. Adoption would be seen as an adoption of convenience and would likely be refused.

Both parents need to be deceased for the child to qualify as an orphan. Unfortunately the answer is no - you cannot sponsor the child.
