Hi All

I have a question about ordering CAIPS. I will order them because I am in Canada but do I use my file number as sponsor or my husband's as applicant?

Also what is the difference between Access to Information and Privacy Act. If I select privacy, will the information be CAIPS notes? and do I check all three boxes?

Also our file has now been sent to Ottawa, so should I be ordering FOSS notes as well and perhaps this is where I would use my husband's file number?

Thanks for any help.

Sheila

You use the file number you are given from the Cairo office, will start with a B or F. Your husband will have to fill out the authorization forms to approve you to apply.

Since your husband is NOT in Canada, you have to ask for the Access to Information and pay the fee, as privacy act is specifically for the applicants who are "IN" Canada and since he is not in Canada, you have to apply on his behalf.

You only want to "Receive copies of the Records" and they will send you your CAIPS notes, if you ask for the entire file, it will add to your actual application time because they have to pull your entire file.

Hope that helps.

thank you so much. this is very helpful.

Thanks again jayde but I have one more question. I thought I read somewhere that a birth certificate either from the sponsor or the applicant (not sure which one) had to be sent along with the request for CAIPS but I'm not seeing it in the request application. Perhaps I read it somewhere else.

Is this correct or no? I just have to send the request along with $5.00?

Thanks again.

The sponsor has to enclose a copy of his/her Canadian ID ( Citizenship card or passport ) along with the application.
No need of any one's birth certificate.

Thanks wilson...got it now. Although since I am Canadian by birth, I will send a copy of my birth certificate.
