Hi,

I am almost ready to send off sponsorship documents. Now I am ticking things off on the check-list. On the last page it asks for Option C printout of my last Notice of Assessment. I don't have this. I am living in England and retired last July. Can anyone enlighten me here?

Thanks,
Lynne

If you have not been filing tax returns in Canada, you won't have a recent one. Send your last P60, and include an explanation that you are now retired and will be relying on savings/investments (or as the case might be).

If you have been filing tax returns in Canada, then you request it from CRA.

Yes. Even though you are not required to meet a minimum income requirement, you do need to demonstrate that you can fulfill your obligations as a sponsor to ensure that your spouse will have the basics of life, and that you are not relying on social assistance to provide same.

Ok. Thanks. Now, another question.....Do I pay the fee and send the receipt with the application? If I do this, and it turns out for some reason that my husband fails the medical (which he's having tomorrow) will my money be refunded? It seems like a lot to send if there could be a rejection.

Yes, the fees are paid and the receipt sent with the application. Otherwise, your application will be returned as incomplete. The sponsor fee ($75) and principal applicant fee ($475) are non-refundable. The right of permanent residence fee ($490) is refundable if the application is denied (hardly likely in your case).

Spousal applicants are "excessive medical demand exempt". This means that, as your spouse, he cannot be deemed inadmissible due to any medical conditions he may be dealing with.
