My husband says that the Option C Printout is just that, a printout and can be copied and printed out again even not by an agency. We're super pressed for time and he forgot to mail it to me... can he fax it to me or scan it and I can print it out? I haven't seen what it looks like, and I'm curious if I can do this. I know on the Document Checklist it says "Original" but it isn't like the Police Certificate that's watermarked and such I guess...

I have three thoughts about this:

First of all, the Option C is plain black ink printed on white paper. I can't see why they would need the original.

However, they ask for the original, and if I have learned one thing, it is do as they ask! He could fed-ex it to you.

Then again, people apply without the Option C and just write letter explaining why, and they get approved to sponsor. If I were you I would scan and print it, and then include a note saying why you did that.

The Option C that I received, printed black and white, 2 sided pages and at the bottom, there is a stamp which represents the initial of the person i spoke with on the phone when I requested my Option C.

Hmm... I wonder why there are a couple different Option C Printouts floating around? I know, I couldn't be more irritated. I waited so long for the FBI and then my husband of course forgets the Option C... I knew he'd forget something! :)

I'm going to have him overnight it if he can. I don't know how much that costs. I did think about scanning... not faxing in the end. Thank you for your advice!

Yes, the date stamp with the initials is how they can tell it is the original. I agree with "bobshynoswife" that ideally it should be the original.

If you decide not to wait for the original and go ahead and submit, then I would also use a "scanned" version with a letter explaining that your husband forgot to send the original. Hopefully that will satisfy them and they will not request the original be sent.

He says there is no ink on there, it's just a black and white copy. Does he have the wrong thing?

I just checked my copy. The stamp (which includes a number, I'm guessing order #?) is actually on the cover letter and not on the actual Option C.
The "letter" is just a 2 line letter on their stationary that says "You will find attached the information you requested. If you have any questions, please call Individual Income Tax Enquires at 1-800-050-8281.

I included that part too (probably because I saw the stamp?), but it isn't really part of the Option C. If that is the case, then I would say you can go ahead and scan it since I doubt they would be able to tell the original from the scan. It's not like the "Notice of Assessment" for example, which has blue shading and would be easier to detect.

Hope this helps.

You are all very helpful, thank you. I wonder if my printer will cooperate and print a nice scan? I would have it done at Staples, but they use harder copy paper. I want to see if I can just let it slide by instead of alerting their attention it's a scan. Or else it probably would make more sense to send the original.

If it was me, since I was sending a scan and not the original, I would attach an explanation of why it was not the original.

I tend to try as much as possible to "go by the book", so would explain why I was not providing exactly what was asked for. But everyone is different. In the end, go with what you are comfortable with.

I'm sure you're right. At least if my husband is approved to sponsor I will know all went smoothly. We're going to try scanning it and will attach a note. I hope that helps. Every single day feels like a missed opportunity we could be approved.

I would wait for the original nyssa.
It does say to send the original. Plus in most cases it doesn't take that long to get it and if he already has the copy, it would be beneficial to have him FedEx it to you. It could be sent overnight delivery I believe.

Believe the last thing you want is to worry if you did the right thing and they will accept it.
I would include an original one. Also, did he order his T4 slips from the CRA with his option c printout? I believe that should be included to and I think if I am not mistaken has blue shading. But like I said I could be mistaken. Anyway, just take the time it takes to get it from him in the mail to keep reading over your application and guide. I wish now I had read over mine more instead of being in such a hurry to send it out... ::)
