Dear VIP members,
Thanks for your helpful information; I will be landing in Toronto in late June. I will give my friend's address for my PR card. I intend to stay with my brother in Montreal, get my PR card, go back to my country and return later. Considering that I applied for Toronto and should land in Toronto;
Firstly, can I open a banking account in Montreal?
Secondly, Can I get MY SIN from Montreal?
Many thanks for your kind assistance

you can open bank account from any city! that should not be a problem.

donno about SIN. logically it should be possible with out any issue. I am assuming you are not in something like PNP/Quebec program that mandates physical living in that province for specified period of time.

Thanks for your reply, I applied as FSW for Toronto (Ont).After landing in toronto I will go to stay with my brother in Montreal. I wonder whether it is possible to get my SIN from Montreal, will not make me any problem when I return later to work in Toronto?
many thanks

Lucio--The SIN is issued by the federal (Canadian) government, not by the province (Quebec or Ontario). You can apply for your SIN at any Service Canada office in Montreal; the number will be issued on the spot and the card will be mailed to you at your brother's place in about 10 business days. Then you will have your card in hand when you return to Toronto.

Good luck!

Yup, applying for my SIN in Montreal took me about 15 minutes and that was slow because the person who was helping me was still in training.

You can give any address as it is only used for sending the card, it's not registered as your home address.

hy
first sin was issued today next step

You can open a bank account with any bank anywhere in Canada. You don't even have to wait for your SIN card to do so. When I opened a bank account, I didn't have my SIN card yet.
