Hello all,

I'm currently in Canada as a tourist and will be until the summer, waiting for a PR application. (Brit, so visa exempt with ETA)
As I'm here for so long, I wanted to get a cell phone and a gym membership, but so far they're all needed a Canadian bank account.

I popped into a bank and the manager said "sure, we just need IMM 1442".
Can I get an IMM 1442 though?
Anyone had any other experience with opening a Bank Account as a visitor?

Thanks in advance.

There are some banks that will open account for visitors. I think TD and RBC have the service... maybe they no longer have it so better give them a call.

Banks open a bank account for tourists who stay how long in Canada?
Don’t believe there is any minimum stay requirement but you will need to check with the banks for any terms/ conditions to be met to open an account. These days financial institutions are more concerned with money laundering so that is possibly more a concern to them than residency.

Okay, thank you for your information

I know this is an old thread, but I'm curious as to how you got on with your attempt at opening a bank account in Canada. Did you manage to get one and if so where/how?

I'm applying to sponsor my husband for Permanent Residency and he's having trouble establishing proof of address here in Canada. RBC told him that he would need to provide proof of a Temporary Visa or Work Visa but he doesn't have these, only a Visitor and since he's from the UK he doesn't even have a Visitor Visa piece of paper because UK is Visa exempt.
