Hello All,

I have a valid open work permit with my old passport details. I got a new passport as my old PP is due to expiry in the next 6 months.

So my question is, do I need to apply for a new work permit with new PP details or old permit is still valid?

Quick response is highly appreciated.

Note : I will be carrying both passports.

You don't need to apply for a new WP. Just carry both the passports together. If the TRV in the old passport expired, then you would need a new TRV in your passport. If not, then you're all good!

The visa sticker in your passport! You need to have a valid one in either of your passports (old or new) to re-enter Canada! Make sure to carry both of your passports together!

When does your old work permit expire? Does it expire at the same time as your old passport?

My work permit expiry date is 1st july 2025, same as old PP. Since I have been issued a new PP with expiry in 2034, the old PP is maked as cancelled, but it contains valid visa that expires on 1st july 2025.

Once your passport expires on the 1st of July 2025, your workpermit will also expire. So you must apply for a new work permit before 1st of July 2025, in order to be able to continue working.
