Hello,

I hope someone can answer my question. I have looked all over the CIC website but have not found the answer. Here it goes...

Can someone who has applied for PR under the Spousal class, outland, apply for an open work visa once they arrive in Canada on a temporary resident visa?

I know the procedure for a temporary work visa, but that involves a job offer, and I can't see many employers really going through the hassle for an LMO just to hire someone, well, at least not where I live. I understand there is good reason for this - not to take jobs from Canadians!

My wife's major in University was English, so that doesn't really help much here in Canada. I earn enough to support both of us, however, I know she is going to get REALLY BORED!! haha.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

I should probably also mention that I am a Canadian citizen, so my wife cannot apply for an open work visa on the basis of me being here on a work visa...

No - unfortunately she can't apply for an OWP if she has applied outland.

You can only apply for an OWP if you have applied via the inland route.

However, you are probably still better off having applied outland because in most cases, she will have her PR faster with outland than she would have gotten the first stage and OWP with inland.

If the problem is just her getting bored, she is allowed to take courses as long as they are not for college credits and short enough for her to complete before her visitor status expires. It will get her out of the house, meeting people and keep her from getting too bored.
