Open Work Permit while on a Study Permit

Hey everybody!

I read through several threads and wasn't able to find an answer to my question. This is my situation.

I am a German citizen and currently on a study visa that runs out in July 2011, but I want to get an extension for another year after that. Is there any way of getting an open work permit for that same time as well? And if yes, where do I find the application documents?

I believe there are post-graduate work permits after you finish your studies? I'm no expert on this, but I believe I read about this before.

Open work permits are generally not available except under special circumstances, but fortunately Canada has agreements with Germany for working holiday programs: http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/germany-allemagne/youth-jeunesse/iec-eic.aspx?lang=eng
