Open work permit-when to expect

Hi,

I have applied for open work permit on 27th Feb 2014 through online application tool. My medical was done before that.

The status of my application in my CIC account is 'Open' since that day. I called to call center agent and asked about the status and she said it is 'in process'. what should I understand from that word? Anybody have answer about the processing time for the Open work permit?

I am really getting worried as my visitor visa expires next month. Please help :'(

You don't need to worry, as you have an open application you can remain in Canada until a decision is made.

What if they refuse to give the work permit? I want to know the normal processing time for open work permit if anybody has an answer.

I should be prepared to apply for extension of my visitor visa in case they refuse to grant open work permit. By knowing average processing time I would be able to make decision on when to apply for the extension of visitor visa.

As long as you submit your application BEFORE the expiration date of your status then you are good.

Your application will be "on process" until a decision is made, so that means they are working on it (which can mean many things from sitting there waiting for someone to work on it to anything else).

Estimate dates are posted in the CIC website.

As I have applied from inside Canada, I looked into the second table and none of the categories is for Open work permit
