My husband company arranged closed work permit for himself and open work permit for me as spouse. But unfortunately my husband passed away while we are in US only.
In this situation will my open work permit which is stamped till 2025 is still valid.??

I want to enter Canada and then look for job opportunities there. Kindly anybody can confirm on the open work permit status in case the primary applicant is decreased.

My condolences.

Did you enter Canada previously (before your husband passed away) and was the work permit already issued? Or would you be entering Canada for the first time?

In that case I'm not sure what will happen. Your work visa was issued based on your husband's closed work permit. I'm not sure if CBSA will still issue your work permit at the border in this situation. You can certainly try. The outcome will be unknown.

Technically your husband should have to land with you or before you in order for your OWP to be considered since your OWP was issued based on his application. You are also required to notify IRCC about any changes to your family composition or application before you land so you are actually required to update IRCC and advise them that your husband has unfortunately passed away which would have lead to both your applications being cancelled. If you try to enter and get OWP you may get lucky and get away with it. If you apply for another permit or visa after the OWP and it is discovered that you didn’t advise IRCC that your husband passed and still moved to Canada and activated your OWP that could be viewed as you misrepresenting yourself in the past which is not good.
