Hello,

As of October 3rd, 2024, IRCC is allowing applicants of the Start-up Visa pathway to obtain an open work permit.

Do they perform a completeness check for proof of funds for this program? If so, do they throw out the application prior to starting the 40 months processing if one can't show proof of funds ($14.7k)?

I would recommend posting to the Business Immigration section. This is where all of the discussions on the Start-up stream are located. Or look though historical posts. Chances are this has already been discussed there.

Thanks!

Np. Someone there should be in the best position to help.

My reading of the rules is that you need to show the proof of funds for the OWP to be approved but I may be misunderstanding. The POF is also quite a bit more than $14k based on my understanding. However I may be mistaken give this is new.

From what I understand, you do need to show the full proof of funds (currently around $25k CAD) as part of the application, even for just the open work permit. The immigration officers will do a completeness check on that before approving the open work permit.

Yes, IRCC performs a completeness check, including proof of funds. If the required proof of funds (e.g., $14.7k for a single applicant) is not provided, the application can be returned as incomplete before entering the 40-month processing stage.
