If you hold a open work permit, PGWP, valid for a few years, should you inform your employer during your interview that you are a foreign worker?
I have asked this question to a few CIC agents and it was not clear. It seems to be in the gray zone.
Agents said that becuase of the numbering of the SIN the employer will know sooner or later, which is completely fine.
I'm not trying to hide the fact that I am a foreign worker, I just don't want to be discriminated because of my status during the interview process if I don't need to be. I have a valid open work permit that allows me to work for anyone for a number of years.
So, do I need to bring this into the spotlight during the interview or can I deal with it when the administrative work for the employment is being conducted after my offer is made?

You absolutely do not need to bring up the fact that you are a temporary worker, and during the interview process the employer is legally not allowed to ask you what your status in Canada is. All employers can ask you during an interview process is "Are you legally allowed to work in Canada?", and the answer you have to give is simply "Yes". You do not have to tell them that you are on a work permit or anything like that, just say Yes.

Once you have a job offer or hired, the employer may ask for proof that you are elegible to work in Canada, in which case you present your work permit. In all my cases, they never asked for proof. Either way, when you give your SIN, it starts with a 9 and they will know by that that you are temporary.

So DO NOT bring up the fact that you are temporary worker during the interview process!

They dont ask you this kind of questions in Interview. However, if you want to you can talk to them regarding this.
I'm with my company when i was on student visa, i explained everything to him that i cant work for more than 20 hours while I'm studying. He was completely cool with it. He also told me that he doesn't know anything about this and whenevr i get full time work permit, just let him know so that he can talk to HR.

I felt the same about being discriminated during my interview. I avoided bringing it up because i felt employers wouldnt really want to jump through hoops for me without even knowing me. After my PGWP came close to expiring, i asked them for LMO and they were happy to help and quite surprised that i was a foreign worker. Deal with everything after the offer is my advice, but don't lie if they ask.

Hi
I have a question. I have finished my 2 year course and working as a manager in food restaurant. Do i need to inform my manager that i would require some documents from her , when applying for PR. Because i am afraid they will took it wrong that i am purposly working to get documents. If i worked there for a year or more, is it compulsary that my employer has to give me documents or it depends upon their personal decision. Thanks
