Hi,

could please somebody help me? I am currently work in canada IEC (Working holidays). My common-law partner has high-skilled position and will apply for open work permit for me because my in few months will expiry. My issue is if I can utilize implied status while I will get new open work permit? I know that there is no way how to extend IEC working holidays but attorney said me that it is possible, because if my common-law partner will apply for open work permit for me I can utilize implied status and continue to work. Because I will not apply for extension of my current work permit but we will apply for new one. Thank you for help. Haniel

The short answer is no.

Unfortunately there's no implied status for IECs. IECs are a special class of work permit that cannot be extended and consequently don't qualify for implied status. You will have to stop working as soon as your IEC expires - unless you have the approved open work permit in hand before the expiry date of your IEC.
