Hi all

I am planning to applying for Canada WP, I am also taking my family with me, so that of applying an open work permit for my wife. Now my query is
1. Should i apply now itself in her application form
or
2. ask for Open work permit at port of Entry , the place where WP will be issued

Seniors please guide me in this regard

Please keep in touch with me. I am applying too for WP soon and I will be bringing with me my family to Canada. I've been reading the guideline lately and as per my understanding accompnying spouse are only eligible for open working permit if the prinicipal applicant's NOC belongs to category O, A or B. You have to indicate in your WP application that your wife will be coming with you to Canada, and in addition to that your wife will have to file a separate application form for TRV single or multiple entry and yes you can apply for her open working permit in the port of entry or even inside Canada. What confuses me is the application for accompanying dependents ages 6-18. Conflicting instructions in the CIC website here in my country of residence. Please take note that application requirements vary depending on the visa office where you are applying.

This is what I did

when I went to the canadian consulate with my lmo i applied for my work permit and on the same form for my wife (open) and extended visitor for my kid this lets him go to school

dont apply at port of entry arrive with all your visas stamped

Thank God finally i found someone with first hand experience about WP application with accompanying dependents. Do you mean that there is only one application form you used for your WP, your spouse and your children?. There is no need to fill a separate application form for your spouse and kids? May I know which Canadian consulate you submitted your application. Was Medical examination required. How long was the processing time. How old are your kids? Sorry for the many questions i have asked. Guidelines are really confusing to me. I need some people like you who had the experience. Hoping to hear from you. Thank you very much.

Hi my initial application was at the consulate in caracas venezuela
Then all the renewals or extensions have been done internally in canada

On the application you are the principal applicant and your wife is the accompayning and you select work permit for her as well

And each of your children they are just visitors

My kid was 2 when we moved here

Processing time it all depends on the consulate it was about 2 months and yes you have to get the medicals done but only when the visa officer gives you a form that the dr has to fill

You need a LMO labour market opinion from HRDSC your employee has to arange that and that takes like 8 months to get

Hope this helps
