Hi, my wife had work visa under IEC and that visa is about to expire. now, I have work permit under IEC. I am going to apply open work permit for my wife in canada. I called CIC and they told me that I could use Application to Change Conditions, Extend my Stay or Remain in Canada as a Worker (IMM5710). However, I checked this forum and nobody use that instead of using IMM1295 application.

Can someone figure out which one I should use?

PLEASE HELP ME !

An IEC work visa does not entitle you to extend your stay, nor does it entitle your wife to a matching work permit. And you cannot "stack" IECs together, each person can only get one IEC once.

This is from the New Zealand IEC website:

6. May I participate in the Canadian IEC initiative more than once?

No. You may participate in the IEC initiative only once.

11. I am currently in Canada with a work permit issued under the IEC initiative. My employer would like me to continue working after the permit expires. Is this possible under IEC? What should I do?

A work permit cannot be renewed or extended under IEC.

Thank for reply.I contacted with lawyer and she said I could do that for my wife. That will make my wife qualify for CEC, otherwise there is no other way to extend her work visa.

You are right, NZ:
Who can apply for an open work permit?
You may be eligible to apply for an open work permit if you are in one of the following situations:

6.You are participating in
•the Canada World Youth Program; or
•International Experience Canada

Matt the Aussie , you are also correct. A person on IEC WP could not extend it. However, he/she could ask for OWP (which is not undet IEC)

OK, wow I stand corrected - that's a good way to go.

And NZ, you've probably got this next step figured out, but with 12 months of experience in a suitable job your wife could then apply for PR under CEC, adding you as a spouse.

that is what I am thinking now. My wife have accounting and finance degree. My brother's company is helping her to get PR. But we must have 1 year Canada experience first.
