Open work permit expired while waiting for landing interview

Hi guys, here is my timeline:
AOR May 7 2017
DM April 16 2018
SA April 20 2018
AIP April 25 2018

I’ve been waiting for 20 days since I got Inland landing letter. Yesterday I just found out my OWP is expired on April 3 2018. I’m not working right now because I have a baby to take care of, so I didn’t notice. Yesterday I tried to call CIC to ask whether or not I need to extend my OWP but no luck.

Could anyone please tell me what should I do now? Do I need to extend my OWP or just wait for landing? Do I have implied status while I’m waiting for landing interview? I read somewhere said that the waiting time is more than 6 weeks at Etobicoke office. Thanks in advance!

You are out of status, but if you are landing soon I honestly wouldn’t worry about it. You can apply to restore your status for $200 but at this point I would consider that a waste of money. Just my opinion though. If you want to apply you can

Thanks for your response, I think it’s a waste of money, too. Last year I did extend my visitor visa which got cancelled and couldn’t get a refund. I extented 1 month before it was expired because I just sent out my sponsor application and didn’t know when I got my OWP. My visa extension got cancelled 5 days before I received my OWP. Now I think I’m in almost the same situation. I don’t know if there’s any issues if I’m landing when I’m out of status? Is it illegal even though I’m not working?

You can land without status.

It is stated on the IRCC website that status is not required when sponsoring a spouse.
