Hi Everyone,
I have been following the discussions on this forum for some time and i must say all your responses and contributions are very helpful.
Iam on inter-company transfer from India on work permit to Ottawa since October 2012. My work permit is valid till June 2014. This would be extended soon by the Canadian employer.
I recently got married to my girlfriend (who was based in India) and she has joined me in Ottawa last week on a single entry visitor visa which is valid until January 2014. While she is with me in Ottawa she would like to apply for spousal open work permit. I found out that i can apply for the OWP online while in Canada. In this regard, i have the following questions:
1. In the application package do i need to give an invite letter for my wife? OR does it suffice for her to give a cover letter stating that she is applying for a spousal open work permit which is linked to my work permit. OR both invite and cover letters?
2. In the invite letter/ cover letter is it necessary to state or show her eligibility to get an employed in Canada? I ask this question, as she is applying for spousal OWP which is linked to my work permit. If yes, then should i include her resume as a part of the supporting documentation? Further, What do i mention for LMO no. for spousal OWP? Do i leave it blank?
3. When she applied for visitor visa, the invite letter from me clearly showed her links back to her home country and her employment in India. Now when she applies for spousal OWP, does the invite letter/ cover letter need to explicitly address reasons as to why she needs to have work permit in Canada (as opposed to not having applied to work permit earlier but visitor visa).
4. Would it help to have a letter from my employer requesting them to issue the spousal OWP till the time I am employed by them in Canada?
5. How much time does the work permit application processing when applied from within Canada? What is the probability of success? Could you provide any advice on what i should be careful in my application? Since it has been only one week since she is in Ottawa, do I wait for some time or apply the online work permit immediately?
6. What happens after she receives the work permit - Does she need to leave and re-enter Canada or can she go to the Canada immigration office at the Ottawa airport and receive the work permit?
Your earliest response to these questions would be much appreciated.
