Hello,

My Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) has expired. I'm currently enrolled in a master's program and plan to apply for permanent residency through the Ontario Masters Stream.

The stream requires either a valid study permit or work permit to earn 10 points, which are essential for ensuring an EOI invitation.

My study permit will expire in three months after I graduate. I'm concerned about the following:

  1. If I change my status to a visitor before my study permit expires, will it immediately become invalid?
  2. Should I apply for a visitor record at least 30 days before my study permit expires? Could I risk illegal status if I apply too late? The Masters Stream EOI withdrawal period is one to three months.
  3. Can I apply for a visitor record, leave Canada a few days before my study permit expires, and then return with a visitor visa after receiving the visitor record?
Thank you in advance for your time reading and giving me advice.

1. No. Your study permit will remain valid until expiry.
2. There is no requirement to apply 30 days in advance but don't leave it too late.
3. Yes, but then I don't see the point in applying for the visitor record. That will be a waste of money.

Thank you so much for your helpful response. Your information was very valuable.
I originally planned to stay in Canada to receive my PNP hard copy before leaving. Is it possible to request that the PNP be mailed to my home country or left with someone I know, who can then send it to my home address?

I don't know what you mean by PNP hard copy

What do you mean PNP hard copy? OINP-International student is a non EE stream. So first you need invitation to apply, then apply for OINP, and once nominated apply through IRCC. The process is long.

So you are taking a Masters, just for this stream? What happens if you don’t get invited within 90 days? Are you still eligible with enough points.

I have 49 points if I don't get the 10 points. 59 points are a guaranteed invitation, oinp draw happens like every 1-3 months, so I hope there won't be a problem if I am well prepared for it.
I plan to apply through EE Federal Skilled Worker Stream, then use provincial nomination for 600 points. On the website it says I can either apply online through EE and use provincial nomination or through provincial nomination base, which is paper-based. Am I wrong ?

This not an EE stream program so nothing to do with CRS or your EE profile. You don’t get 600 points. So not you don’t understand the process. If invited, you apply to OINP and once approved then you apply for PR through IRCC.

You cannot apply through EE. This is not an EE stream. You will not get 600 extra points for this nomination. You have to apply through the non-EE route.

Thank you so much for your clarification. It has been very helpful and has saved me a lot of time. After I am approved, can I apply for permanent residence online, or is it only a paper-based process?

Read the OINP site in detail.
May I ask one more question ?
To have a proof of funds, I am required to upload the last 3 month bank statements and a letter from the bank. I intend to leave Canada and withdraw all of money in my Canadian bank account. Will OINP officer check my bank account when they process my application ?
Can I use bank statements of different banks, such as 1 month from a canadian bank, 2 months from my home country bank as my proof of funds ?
