Hello All,

My friend is currently an international student at Sheridan college. With the Ontario college strike she is facing some visa concerns and has questions.

IRCC Says:

Students who accept the refund and are enrolled at a designated learning institution for the Summer or Fall 2018 semester:

“Students who withdraw from the 2017 Fall semester, and are enrolled at a designated learning institution for the Summer or Fall 2018 semester, may change their status to “visitor” if they wish to remain in Canada. Students who choose this option no longer meet the eligibility requirements for on- or off-campus work or the post-graduation work permit program. Students who change their status to visitor will need to apply for a new study permit from abroad if they wish to return to full-time studies.

Q: She wants to convert her student visa to visitor visa and enroll in school in May 2018. While she is Canada on visitor visa she will have to apply for student visa abroad. Will she have to exit the Canada and go to India for student visa stamping?

Kindly suggest.

As a visitor in Canada, you cannot extend your stay as a student. You need to apply for student visa in your own country through online and paper application (you need to send the passport along with the mail) or apply in person or by mail at Los Angeles. If you do apply online I dont think they will issue a student visa since you are already in Canada. Since student permits are given at the port of entry, I guess you probably need to get them at the port of entry.
