Online Work Permit application while waiting for LMO

Hi guys,
I will be applying(online) for an extension of my work permit but I have just sent the LMO( I dont have much time before the old WP expires).
I read its possible to apply for a work permit while LMO is in process but the online application has a place to put the number, how do I do it then?
I don`t have the LMO case file number neither.
Should I send a paper application and state the LMO is in process?

Yes, this is possible if you will be working for the same employer in the same job after your extension.

When your employer submitted the LMO application, he/she should have received a receipt of confirmation from Service Canada. There should be a file number on the confirmation notice but either way, you can attach the notice to your work permit application as proof that the LMO is in process. Once the LMO result is known, CIC will approve or deny your WP application accordingly. Until then, you can continue to work on implied status.
