Hi Guys,

Any suggestions on Online vs mail-in application for a visitor visa at LA consulate? Their website encourages online but it does not look that straightforward; any tips?

Thanks

Hi - Online application is easier, but the details go to Canada and local consulates in US will not have access to your information. You just need to wait until you get email notification from the Canadian consulate before they advise you to submit your passports for stamping. It took almost 20 days for the consulate to process and advise me to submit my passports at the nearest consulate. NYC my case.

Its easier to self apply at the nearest consulate with all the required details and a self addressed USPS envelope - Highly recommended.

Hi:
Yes, apply via mail. And, make sure you send a return USPS envelope.

I'm currently waiting on my passport that I mailed via Fed Ex and return envelope with Fed Ex as well. What I didn't know was, they only use USPS to send mail back. Otherwise they send mail via ordinary mail. This is my 34th day, and no word from the consulate, I've emailed them but they have NOT yet responded back.

The only thing I know that they've cashed my money order, so I know my application made it to them!

Good Luck with your application.

Thanks for the tips. It is in fact for my sister (and her husband) who are at Omaha (Nebraska) at present visiting their son. Since they needs to travel to other locations in the US as well in the meantime (and needs ID), they will be applying online (to avoid the passport hold ups for a long).

My next question is: what number should they enter for amount available in the application form? I have sent her an invitation letter, bank statement and my 2012 NOA. The funny part with the (TD) bank statement is that it does not disclose the balance amount (it is in high, low and 3,4, 5 etc format). TD says the immigration folks can interpret the form.

Will it be OK if I ask them to enter $10,000?

Thanks for the info.
