Hi, all.
I'm probably at my wits' end over here, so mainly seeking reassurance, and in the off chance, to see if anyone is in the same boat as me! For background, I'm an international student in the UK, and am originally from a country that requires a TRV to enter Canada. As part of my course, I have to spend four weeks on elective placement, and I'd applied to the University of British Columbia, getting an offer for a 4-week placement roundabout late January, and am due to start in the first week of July.
As my parents are back in my home country, it took a while to put together the documents I needed, plus waiting for certain documents from UBC as well, but I put in an online application to the London Visa Office around late March. I don't require biometrics to be done, and I'm 100% confident that I've applied for the correct visa, being a TRV rather than a student or worker's permit.
I've tried to be patient and just let them do their job, and for the most part, haven't thought about things for a while, until it came to the mid-May, because that had far exceeded the 7 working days quoted on the UK website for the High Commision. So, I fired off an e-mail on a case specific enquiry, and got a generic reply about 2 weeks later saying that my application was in final processing. At that point, I thought I would be getting a passport request in the following week, but it's almost the end of June, and still nothing!
I'm in a bit of a dilemma right now, because I've exceeded the appropriate timeline for cancelling the elective without repercussions (I'd have to do it 6 weeks beforehand), though for the time being I've arranged alternative plans in the city where I'm studying at the moment, and have said that I will confirm things with them by next Monday, since I will definitely have to cancel with UBC by then.
Basically, after that long rant, my main question is if it's normal for the London VO to take so long? While I was prepared for a bit of a wait, even my student visa to the UK took less time to get sorted during peak period, and it's getting to the point where I'm getting annoyed at how ridiculous it is! For the most part, I'm a patient person, but this has left me just horribly snappy and cynical. Has anyone got any success stories from applying via London? Thank you.
