Dear Friends,

I was hoping one of you can assist with a question surrounding the Photo ID as the information seems contradictory. Can you confirm if your PR card (mine is expired) is acceptable as my PR card does not have my signature on it?

In the email I received with the test instructions, I got a pdf attached to the email with test instructions which say the below:

A photo identification (ID) with your signature on it, such as:
•your permanent resident card (even if it’s expired) or
•a valid (not expired) ID such as driver's license or health card

In the test instructions link (https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/canadian-citizenship/become-canadian-citizen/citizenship-test/access.html), it says:

You need a photo ID, like
•your permanent resident card (even if it’s expired) or
•a valid (not expired) ID with your photo and signature on it (for example, driver’s licence or health card)

You will notice in the test instructions link, it just says photo ID and not photo ID with signature. So my question is whether my PR card is good enough even if it does not have a signature? Please help as my health card and driver's license are both expired and I dont think I can use those documents.

Thanks in advance!

PR card is an acceptable ID proof even if it is expired as it is EXPLICITLY mentioned in the test instructions page.

You need

  • a piece of identification (ID), like
    • your permanent resident card (even if it’s expired), or
    • a valid (not expired) ID with your photo and signature on it (for example, driver’s licence or health card)

Please Just go for the Expired PR card. It should work. My family Friend used, even her card is not like mine, old pattern. As long as it is a PR card that should be fine. Wish you good luck with your Test. PR card is sufficient. Even though there is no signature it is a listed document because it was given by the same department IRCC.
