Hi All,

Two questions I could use some help with:

1) I submitted a paper application for permanent residency on May 12. The CIC web site still says that there is no application on record. Is this normal for it not to show up for a month? Have they not opened it? I am panicking, but there's nothing I can do. They won't return messages until the "normal processing time" (12 months) has passed. But I'm not even sure it's there and received!

2) Part of my application was an application to change status from student (my current status in Canada) to worker while I wait for the full approval. But my current student visa will expire on June 30, so should I renew the student visa even though I've already sent an application to do something different (i.e. Change to an open work permit)? I don't want to do anything improper while my application is being processed, but I also obviously want to keep my status in Canada.

You need to wait for Correspondence from CIC to confirm that they receive your application (AOR1)

Did you send it xpress or registered?
Do you have a tracking number?
Are you outland or inland?

I sent it by regular mail, and I am inland. I'm not sure if I have a tracking number.
You should not send out applications like this without a tracking number because they can get lost so easily and it will take way longer to get to cic. If you can't track it then you will have to just wait on IRCC to get to you. This can be very frustrating because it can take a long time and you have no idea whats going on. Hopefully you hear from them soon.

Since you have no idea when it was received at their mail room then its hard to say. Sometimes it can take 2 weeks to 6 weeks to get a reply. It can take even longer if they returned the application to you.

Hi Ryan! Try to call the IRCC about the extension of your study permit. Because the work permit usually takes up to 4months, and I am not sure what could happen if your visa expired and you are still waiting for the answer. Also, if you have your UCI number, you can call and see if when they received your application.

Yes i think he should call them and use the study permit option, explain the situation to them and also let them know about the pr application and see if it has arrived.
