Online Payment with initial application - is it a wise way?

I have paid online payment for my application using credit card on CIC website and attached the receipt along with the application.

Did I do a wise thing or a did i made a mistake ?

I am hearing lot of guys talking about DD en-cashed etc and thats how they have an idea weather application is in process or not.

A bit confused here...

I was planning to pay by visa too... I though I could just put in all my information in the form and that's it. Do I have to make an payment online first and then attach the receipt with form IMM5620???
