Hi all,

I almost gathered all the required documents for TRV,

1- what is the difference between online application and this new Electronic travel authorization (eTA) ..!!

2- applying by paper it means, downloading the IMMXXX pdf documents,fill it then mail it to the embassy ( or the VFS in abu dhabi )..!!.

3- I still don't have the invitation letter from our relatives in Canada, if i use the online application method can i send my application and when i recieve the letter add it to MyCIC profile...!!.

4- do i have to submit our original passports ( not copies) along with the complete application ,or i have to wait for the result or notification from CIC first to submit the original passports.

5- if i use online application method, so only scanned copy of our passports is enough, right?...do i have to scan the whole pages of the passport or only the biopage and uae visa..!!

6- i been by a countryman that our passports are not accepted as travel documents by the Canadian government ,and if they ( by God's will) issue us a visit visa they will give something called single journey travel document, which is a piece of paper with the visa sticker instead of stamping it on the passports, so in this case ,sending original passports is useless and maybe informing this from begining might save me some time later on by explaining in the cover letter why i am not submitting our original passports ...please help on this.

7- which process is faster and have more success rates online or paper application

1) ETA is for visa exempted passport holders. Your parents need TRV. However, both TRV and ETA can be apply online;
2) Yes, including application fee and supporting document
3) Why don't you wait until you have the invitation letter? Or you can apply without it?
4) Yes, original passports
5) Read the instructions...
6) Why not go to the VFS or embassy to ascertain? Or you can check with local Canadian BSO?
7) impossible for anyone to say the odds between the two methods are.

Visa-exempt nationals may apply for an eTA..... else, other visitors must apply for TRVs

Yes, for paper submissions. However, if you need to give biometrics then do not mail your application to VFS/CVAC.... you must apply in person.

I would suggest that you wait until you receive the invitation letter from your relative before you submit your application.

No, you cannot submit any documents later by the online method unless if it is requested by the visa office.

Also, your relatives must provide other documents such as copies of their passports/their immigration status in Canada..... plus, documents such as NOA/T4/bank statement (if they wish to provide these)

For paper submissions, yes.... you must submit your passport along with the visa application.

For online submissions, no.... you will have to submit your passport when you receive an email request from the visa office.

You may also want to check with the CVAC or send an email to the Abu Dhabi visa office for questions concerning your nationality/passport or travel document

Processing times vary from application to application.... and depend on the documents/evidence submitted by the applicant.

To be successful, an applicant must demonstrate strong ties to return to the home country/country of residence such as employment/property ownership/family/financial situation, etc + genuine purpose of visit + adequate finances to support the visit
