Just wondering if to take online Oath for Citizenship, is physical presence in Canada a requirement and must? By the way IRCC would definitely have the capability to track IP address of the computer if someone take oath Online Oath from outside of Canada. However, travelling and quarantine issues due to COVID makes physical presence in Canada a challenge especially at a short notice.

You should be able to take the oath even during quarantine.
However, you can't take it outside Canada AFAIK

Reschedule the test or ask IRCC this question?

Yes - it's mandatory to be on Canadian soil. If you can't make it back to Canada, then contact IRCC and postpone your oath.

The unison response from members is that one cannot take oath online while being outside Canada. Is this restriction / condition imposed by IRCC available in writing or at some link?

It will be in the oath invitation ("You must be physically present in Canada to attend this event"), and the officer will ask you to verbally confirm that you are currently in Canada.

The same condition applies to the online test and online interview.

Thanks and appreciate the response.

Also found a public link for it:

Leaving Canada after you submit your application
You can leave Canada after we receive your application as long as you:

  • keep your permanent resident (PR) status
  • can receive any letter mail, parcels and emails we send you after you submit your application
  • can reply to our letters and emails within the specified time, usually within 30 days
  • are available in person in Canada to attend your citizenship test (if you’re between 18 and 54 years of age), interview, and ceremony
Let us know if you plan to leave Canada for more than two weeks in a row.

The requirement to let CIC know if you plan to leave Canada for more than two weeks in a row seems fairly new. The page that I saw previously didn't mention that requirement: https://www.canadavisa.com/canada-i...ence-in-canada-required-and-is-a-must.732242/

Do you think that not notifying the CIC of being outside Canada for extended periods while waiting for citizenship test / oath can cause problems down the road (e.g. revocation of citizenship, deportation, etc.)? And do you think that notifying the CIC will put your application in a "low priority" pile that will cause processing time to be slower than it already is?

I don’t think so. I think it’s just so applicants can actually inform IRCC an exact date to send the rescheduled invite. From what I’m seeing sometimes, people here sometimes worry “what if IRCC reschedules me while I’m still out of the country?” and honestly they would simply want to know when they can expect you back.

As long as PR status was still maintained (we’ve seen a recent case here where the applicant left Canada for four years after sending the citizenship app, so obviously his application was rejected), it shouldn’t be an issue.
