As can be seen from my signature below, my husband's application will be in process at the London Visa office for one year on January 8. After one year, don't they HAVE to give us a decision??? This is just not fair!

Sometimes the background check takes long time, just hang in there.

My wife's application was in process since July 2008, and just this month Dec 2009 she received a request for her passport. So, you can see that it took them 15 months to make a decision. So, don't give up hope, its just the process of backgorund check that takes long, you'll get an answere sooner or later.

Hello Kingtreek!
No, they did not tell me that it's going to go on for another year . . . they did not tell me anything! All that they tell me is that they are awaiting the results of routine background checks. I've already spoken to my MP and they said the same thing. I was really hoping that my husband will get his passport request before the end of 2009 so that we can put the stress of this application behind us and start 2010 with happy news. I'm just so sad . . . so so so sad! :(

Hi SadGirl,

I'm just wondering why background check takes so long. Had your husband been in other country? Did you order CAIPS note yet? Anyway, wish your husband would get PPR soon.

Hello lilacsouls!
Unfortunately, yes, my husband has been in more than one country. His home country is Iraq. Then he moved to Syria for less than half a year. Then he moved to Sweden and has been in Sweden for three years now. I've ordered CAIPS notes already. The last update that I got was on October 26th and that was that they're still awaiting the results of the background checks. I spoke to my MP and they gave me the same response.

Kingtreek, the London Visa office is the one that keeps telling us that they are awaiting the results of the routine background checks. It is ridiculous and unfair that the background checks are taking this long!!!

MP is Member of Parliament. I got in contact with my Member of Parliament on October 23rd hoping that they can help me out, but there has been no change whatsoever. I got in contact with my MP because many people have told me that getting in contact with your MP can help your case move forward, but I don't know . . . I was really hoping that by now we would have heard some good news.

I don't know what else to do except pray.

:(

There are determining factors how IO (actually a CSIC member) takes your husband's background check in-depth which may take up to 21 months.

o his nationality and race
o Where he currently lives
o Has he ever been rejected by a country
o have he ever been a refugee in a country and was that excepted
o how many courtiers he lived in
o Has he ever been in a country illegally
o his Criminal record
o his personal stuff (bad credit, bankruptcy,...)
o his family background sometimes

In your case, his citizen should be one of main problems lengthen his PR application. Hope I was wrong. Be strong SadGirl

SadGirl,

They say "no news is good news". So, unless you don't get a negative response from them, take as something good, since they are still processing their routine background check, and eventually, they will come up with an answer. It can be really frustrating, I know it because I've been there in your same situation. Just hang in there. The only thing you can do, really, is wait. Take actions only when you are asked. They are well aware of your situation, and have all the information. Best of luck.

Hi Kingtreek! My husband's first medicals expired on September 10, 2009 and he redone them on September 15, 2009 so as to save time.

I'm sorry to hear that your application has taken so long also. Somedays it's just really hard to concentrate on anything when this is always on your mind.

My husband thinks that there should be a limit as to how long they should take to process cases and then after that time period has passed they should make a decision.

Hi lilacsouls! Oh, I really hope it doesn't take 21 months! When I got in contact with my MP (October 23), my MP told me to just wait and not to get in contact with London and that if I don't hear anything within three months (by the end of January 2010) to get in contact with her again so that she can get in contact with London. I just thought that by her response, we would be hearing something within the three months, but so far nothing.

Thanks Toledo!

I know that you've been waiting a long time too. I'm happy to hear that everything for you and your wife is finally over with. CONGRATULATIONS!!! Where will you two be settling down?

I know you're right, no news is good news! I just thought that after a year they would have to make a decision.

How can they make a decision if all the information has not been received?? That would be completely irresponsible. I mean think about it, do you seriously expect them to say about any applicant "Hmm, well, we still haven't gotten all the information we need from country X, but oh well, he's been waiting so long, let's just let him in." Trust me, there is NO way that they will finalize his application before completing his background check. There is no limit to the time to complete background checks. Unfortunately, they take as long as they take to complete. I seem to recall that your husband was also in the military which will add additional delay in completing the background check. Just be patient. Your continual worrying and stressing and complaining will not make it go any faster. It's not like you are the only one who has ever had to wait a year to be finalized. Sorry, I know that sounds rude but it's reality. I really do wish that your case will be completed soon. Best of luck to you.
