Hi,
I am an international graduate student in Ontario, and I will be fulfilling my degree requirements by this August. I checked all the requirements to apply for canadian CEC class permanent residency. I am confused with the following issue

According to CIC, I should have one year full time (37.5*52 = 1950 hours) work experience after my degree requirement satisfied. Last week, I got a job offer from my University as a Post-Secondary Research Assistant(NOC 4122-A) for one year after degree completion(from August onward). But according to university rules, a full time employee allowed to work for 35 hours a week. So in that case, Do I have to work 1950/35 = 55.7 ~= 56 weeks (13 months) to get one year full time experience?. Could anyone clarify whether I understood this correctly or working for one year at University is enough?

Thanks

you need to accumulate a minimum of 1950 hours in total at the time you submit your application

so it should be 1950/35 for you

u've already spent several years studying here why not work for an extra one month just to be safe?

Thanks for the relpy lilyluvx. Contract is for one year, so if it is 13 months I have to discuss it with my department in University.

You can also find a part-time job that is skilled to make up for the extra weeks you need after your contract. Remember, you must work at least 12 months even if you accumulate 1950 hrs before 1 year.

Yes, that is correct, you'll need to work 56 weeks/13 months. Talk with the university and try to negotiate that extra month.

It would theoretically be possible to gain extra hours by working part time (you will still have to work a minimum of 12 months), but it might not be easy to find "Skilled" part-time employment.

Another option is to look in to the Provincial Nominee Program for Ontario - the international Masters Graduate Stream -

I will try to get the additional one month from University. I have plans to do my PhD after this employment, so PNP program is not suitable for me. For PNP they clearly states that my intention should not be following higher studies. :(
