once it shows 'Decision has been made" what is next?

Hello Everyone : )

I am soo excitted! Just saw 'Decision has been made on my file' and just received a communication that states:

"We are pleased to announce that we are on the verge of issuing your Confirmation of Permanent Residence for Canada.
We notice that you have dual citizenships for Portugal and United States of America, as well as the corresponding passports.
We would like to know with which citizenship you would like to immigrate to Canada with ? (with which passport you will be entering our port of entry in Canada)
..."

QUESTIONS:
1) is anyone aware of any advantages of either citizenship (my case is being processed in Paris)?
2) once I respond to them what happens next? what are the next steps until receiving the permanent resident card and what are the average timelines?
Light at the end of the tunnel for sure : )

Wait for others to chime in before listening to my advice, but...

I'd say USA is the way to go just because Canada and the US are close neighbors and each other's best trading partner. And I know for a fact the US is a visa-exempt country for Canada. I don't know if Portugal is.

Again, wait for others to chime in, as they probably have more knowledge in this arena.

Hi

1. It doesn't matter which you pick, it will not affect anything. They are just asking as a little courtesy to see which passport details you want listed on your COPR.

2. Once you respond, it will probably take a few weeks for your COPR to be issued and mailed out, then you can land as a PR. Current PR card processing time for a new PR is 94 days and has only been increasing over the past few months. You can keep track here http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm-card.asp

Which visa office did you go through? Ottawa or a different one (based on your Portuguese citizenship)?

Well, if Portugal is visa exempt like the US, then it doesn't matter which you choose. If it is not visa exempt, I would likely choose the US one, that way you wouldn't have to send in the passport for a physical stamp. I don't know if it makes a difference when you are already a dual citizen or not, but if it does, go with the visa exempt option

Paris is the processing center and yes both Portugal and the US are visa-exempt countries.

I have to say that hearing back from them in June (I started the process early March) is a pleasant surprise : )
I have a another question about travel between landed and PRcard but will ask in a new thread.

Just in case nobody answers, both of your Passports are visa exempt so you can travel without issue before you get your PR card. Just return to Canada as a visitor and then they'll take care of it at the border once in Canada
