Hi all

My spous is sponsoring me and file is now at london cpc from last 6 months.

My questions are

1.what is the function of MP?
2.How much time it takes the enquiry to get done through the MP?
3.On wot extent the MP can tell about the status of application?

your answer will be appreciated.

Regards

We're in the same situation (6 months so far at the London office without hearing from them once). We just heard back from the MP's office in Canada giving us the number of the person in their office who deals with immigration issues. My wife should be talking to her today hopefully to get an idea of what they can do to help.

In answer to your first question though, an MP is an elected Minister of Parliament. The government. Their function as you put it, is to run the country and govern on behalf of Canadian citizens. In this instance, as a Canadian citizen, your wife is entitled to contact her elected representative and ask them for help with something like this, as it's taking so long.

But really, from what I understand, all they can do is contact the London visa office on your behalf and ask about the status of the application. Chances are they'll just get a standard response back from London in a couple of weeks saying the application is being processed. But it's better than sitting around doing nothing. And if there is some issue you're not aware of, maybe you'll find out.

Well, my wife just got a phone call from the MP's office. They called the London visa office and found out the bring forward date on my file is this Wednesday where they will reasses the application. Apparently the only thing pending was a background check (no idea what this involves or how long that's likely to take), and that they didn't require any further info from us.

The MP's office seemed to think the decision should be made fairly soon, and they said they will ring London again next Monday to make sure that the application is progressing. So fingers crossed! And this MP will definitely get my vote if I end up a Canadian citizen!

I hope you get a quick response as well, Yasi. It's a relief to finally hear something after waiting 6 months without London contacting us even once.

In our case, the MP's office rang London right away and got a response. So we didn't have to wait at all. But I don't know how long they'll take in your case. Hopefully they'll ring right away and find out for you.

My wife lives in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

We haven't been asked for an interview, and I'm assuming they've already waived an interview for me, since they said that only a background check was pending on my application, and that they didn't need anything further. But I guess until they make the final decision on my application, I won't know for sure.

I've seen other threads on this forum discussing interviews and the questions they're likely to ask, so use the search function to find what others have said about it.
