On a study permit, how early can I come to Canada before my classes start?

Hi,
I am applying for a study permit to attend University in the fall semester, starting on August 31st. Does anyone know how early can I enter Canada before the classes start? Like 1 month early or 2 months early, or 3 months early?
Please help.
