OLD rules and NEW rules - effective date question

I'll be eligible for applying citizenship on April 2-2015. Need to know if new rules take effect on Canada Day-2015 then what are my chances of falling into OLD rules considering AOR takes 3months?

I need to know when they start working/open my file (lets say 2-Jul-2015) then on that day new rules will be applicable and my application will be having signed date as April-2-2015 - so I'll fall into which category - NEW rules or OLD rules?

Please advise.

Whether it will follow the old or new rules will depend on when CIC officially received your application. If CIC received your application before the new rule effective date, it will follow the old rule regardless of when you get AOR letter. The AOR letter is basically an official confirmation letter of date CIC received your application.

Wait till nearer to the current 'CIC media announced date' and there will be legislation/ procedural rules as to actual cut off dates, what constitutes a valid application and any transitional arrangements. A week is a long time in Politics and the powers that be might decide an earlier cut off as appropriate based on the political climate in play around Q1/Q2 2015.

I would also recommend that you send a complete package the first time and not miss anything. For example, writing your name in the back of the photo, which should also have the photographer's name and date the picture was taken. Or things like forgetting to sign the cover letter.

If anything is missing, they can return the application (sometime as late as 2 month after receiving it). When you return the application the second time after correcting the mistake, the application received date would be the second time they received it, not the first time.

Being so close to the cut off next year, you want to be extra careful to make sure your first application is complete and accepted.
