Hi,
My girlfriend was able to get into Canada on a LMO work permit last year. She has a multiple entry visa that is good until March 2011. She was recently fired from her job, for no apparent good reason. That is not a big problem, as she doesn't really need the money. However, she was in the process of trying to get her PR through the PNP program, so that has now been abandoned.
We would like to apply for her PR through the common-law route, but have been told we have to wait until April 2011 because she put "single" on her PNP application this past April, even though we have been living together over a year now. So, if we get married now, I guess we could apply now.
The problem is we are really hoping to do some travelling this winter. To the US (assuming she could get a US visa), and also to her native Philippines. Can she do so on her multiple entry visa, even though she is no longer employed?
If we get married first, would that help or hinder the process if her PR application is under way?
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
