I currently live in Canada under a work permit valid until Dec 2010.

I have 3 trips to the U.S. planned over a 2 month period - Nov - Dec 2009. All 3 trips will involve AIR travel. I just got my PR visa and would be landing during the first trip. I am concerned about the letter that came with the PR visa that says that you cannot re-enter Canada after landing but prior to receiving your PR Card unless you have valid travel papers. Will my work permit suffice for this purpose??? I noticed that they left it in my passport when I sent it to get the PR visa - I was expecting them to take it out. Not sure what to do here, since I already have plane tickets for all of the trips. Thanks

"Unless you have valid travel papers" - if you are from a visa exempt country, it is not a problem. You can also apply for a travel document from the Canadian embassy.

Thanks. I am American and applied through Buffalo - it seems odd that Buffalo would put this in their letter, since it shouldn't apply, right???

Anyone who has been legally admitted into the US or Canada for at least 1 year can choose to have their application processed in Buffalo. So Buffalo ends up processing applications for applicants from all over the world and at least some of them are not from a visa exempt country. They send out standard letters to everyone, so yours ended up including something that doesn't really apply to you, but applies to some others who receive it.
