My work permit is going to expire in 15 days, and I have already submitted my PNP application, which has been pending for around 5 months. I am very confused about what I should do. Should I extend my work permit or apply for a visitor record?

You can extend your work permit without LMIA now . You should convert your status into visitor.
Apply for a work permit extension and then a visitor's record before your work permit expires. You will need to submit the application receipt to PNP if they request for it or in a situation were your application was refused for some reasons and you were asked to reapply.
