Preparing for OINP. Just got my IELTS results.. Pretty surprised that I only got 6.5 for writing. Listening is 8.5 and reading/speaking are 7.0. My total CRS is 415. I'll have one year of work experience by April and then hopefully I can apply for OINP. Should I retake another IELTS now?

Recommended to retake IELTS to improve your score. You might need not go for OINP then and should be eligible for ITA directly. Good luck!!

As such you cannot apply for OINP until April. In the meanwhile you can reappear for IELTS and try to score CLB 9.
All the best.

Don't rush for the retake just yet.

You can request for a remark if you got your result recently. My friend got her Writing remarked from 6.5 to 8.0 so she got CLB 9 in all tests. Search around on this forum on how to do it, or contact your IELTS administrator. There is a fee, but it will be refunded if your score goes up.

You just need +0.5 anyway, so more often than not, it gets granted.

Friend:

Yes go ahead.

Please spare some time to read:

I have been repeating IELTS for four times to overcome 6.5 in writing, and improve my CRS. How disappointing?

If I am not good at writing, I will accept it with humility

BUT

The unethical practices of IELTS to generate revenue by assigning .5 less in writing is apparent.

I am confident of my writing abilities and can't imagine failing four times to get 7 in writing and getting 6.5.

Well, we cant go for remarking as IELTS will never accept their mistake. It's a prestige for them; Nobody can challenge their marking.

Don' t have the patience and trust in IELTS to appear for 5th time.

I am using my first score L 8.5 S 7.5 R 8 W 6.5

My present CRS 412. IF I would have 7 in writing my CRS would be 469.

Good luck to you. Try, you may be lucky.

Actually IELTS test results can be changed. A friend of mine had his wife take it and she was quite sure that her results are lower than she deserved. So she pleaded for re assessment.
They raised 2 of her modules by 0.5.

Only thing is that this is paid.

Hi

I am facing the same situation, but it's better to give that again.
I have given twice the exam both times I landed with 0.5 less in writing. I got overall 8 bands but due to 6.5 in writing I could not achieved CLB 9. I prefer if you are 100% sure about your writing skills and you think you deserve more than 6.5 then EOR is the option. They charge you around 60% of the test fees, in India it's Rs. 6500/-, that is refundable if you get higher score in revaluation.

I have already applied for EOR, decision awaited.

If you think spending CAD 1500 on OINP nomination is worth (which is) then go OINP way.
Plus file for re-evaluation if you think your writing test was good. You might be lucky if they give you 0.5 in re-evaluation.
And also book next date for IELTS. i was 8L, 7R, 6.5S, 7W. In my second test i got 8.5L, 8.5R, 7S, 7W

Conclusion is, if money is not the problem go for all the options.. Think of it as an investment.. moreover all these options ll keep your morale high.

Retaking IELTS is the "easiest" way to increase your score. I opted for that too and managed to go up almost 70 points.

I strongly recommend you try it again.

I think you should ask IELTS to re-assess your writing exam (i.e. mark it again). This also happened to me last year L9 R8 W6.5 S9. I knew there was no way I could score so low in the writing, and when they re-assessed my work, my scores went up W 8.0 !. I had to wait 8 weeks for the final results and I got a refund on the £70 i paid for the remarking.

I had the similar issue. I lacked 0,5 in writing to have CLB 9. I sent EOR, waited for 6 weeks but unfortunately the score was not changed.

Then I took my second IELTS and got the needed score. I read books by Mike Wattie and Ryan Higgins to understand how to write the essay required particularly for IELTS.

In IELTS thread I shared the link for google drive. All books about IELTS are stored there as well as examples of strong essays.

I advise to fight this exam and succeed. Just train the skills required for this test.

I am sailing in the same boat. My wife scored 6.5 in writing due to which she missed CLB9. She is confident of her writing skills as she scored 79 in writing section of PTE Academic for Australia. Also, we are aware of revenue generation methods of IELTS. Keep in mind that its a risk and that too expensive risk and if you do not get your scored revised you would loose INR 7950. Basically a trade off between INR 7950 and your confidence in your writing skills.
