HI..question to all…..

If we haven't received our OATH LETTER YET………and our ohip expires because we are not in canada….will it affect our citizenship process? will they check on that? JUST CURIOUS.

I am planning to go to the usa and stay for 7 months and may pass the ohip days, which the ministry can block….i haven't decided that yet but it's a thought..does anyone know if that would affect or not?

thanks.

If you choose not be in Canada during your citizenship process, you should worry about your citizenship process not OHIP.
Let us know how it went for you. Are many around here eager to find out how'd be to apply for citizenship and leave canada while processed.

FYI I AM NOT LEAVING CANADA !!!!!! I asked because I am supposed to attend a course in the USA FOR 7 MONTHS, then I will come back to canada when it ends. i know ontario ohip allows only 212 days outside the country then the block your ohip..and because i am only waiting for my oath letter i wonder that once my ohip is blocked and 'inactive'..will have any bad impact on my application as I'm at the final stage.....

Dont get excited; you're attending a course in USA for 7 months, but you're not leaving canada. Its an online course?
Anyway, you'll be out of country. Technically meaning you left canada. For what reason, i dont care and nobody here cares, except maybe CIC. You're aware you'll have to inform CIC if leave canada for more than 2 weeks, right?
Nobody is blocking your OHIP, you just not covered if were outside canada for more than 3 months and you'll have to wait 3 months when returned to get coverage again.

Again as mentioned a million times in other threads, since you applied with less than 1095 physical days, you most likely have to see a judge for your application. You just make your case even more complicated if you decide to leave Canada for a while as well.

Yes - this could certainly negatively impact your citizenship process. Since you applied with well under 1095 and will have to see a judge, the judge will be looking to see that you are demonstrating a strong commitment to living in Canada. If you want to have ANY any hope of being successful in the interview with the judge, you should not leave Canada for prolonged periods of time. Seven months is far too long. I think this is the best answer any of us can give us.

Having said all of the above, if I was in your shoes I would go ahead and leave Canada for seven months. I don't actually think your citizenship application has any chance of being approved since you were short so many days. So I would forget about the citizenship application and do what you need to do for your job.

You may be asked (or may have already been asked) to produce your OHIP claims history at some point, just to confirm your residency, but it should only be for the four years previous to your application date. So, if you're asking whether CIC will be notified by OHIP that you've been cut off, the answer is no. Of course, I'm not commented on your likelihood of approval based on past (or future) absences from Canada. Others have already done that.

You seem to be completely missing the point here, im not sure if you are just being ignorant or deliberately ignoring what people are telling you. Let me break it down for you in a way that you might be able to understand... ???

1. If you have less than a 1095 days (im not sure if this is true but from what I have read, this seems apparent) - You will certainly be scheduled to see a CJ regardless of what a IO told you. I still don't understand how people "miscalculate" their residence days other than complete ignorance.

2. OHIP - you are concerned about the wrong thing here... screw your ohip status, I would be more concerned about leaving the country for that amount of time to take up residence in another country. You have now destroyed any type of credibility regarding your intent to reside in Canada.

3. Regardless of what the IO told you, things can change in a blink of an eye... especially when you do something as damaging as leaving Canada in order to gain residency in another country. This is probably the worst thing you can possibly do for your citizenship process. Whether the IO told you you have passed or not is irrelevant. You now have made a decision to leave that is not in the best interest of Canada, therefore you can still be denied your application. This is simply put.

Do ya get it now? Or do we need to draw you a picture? Your OHIP status is irrelevant here, May I add that if they do look into your OHIP status and see that it is not valid, they will investigate why not. and then they will learn that you have left and abandoned your residence here in Canada, and by extension thereby abandoned your citizenship petition.
