I don't know if I should be happy or not! Has anyone else gotten an email like this? I still haven't gotten an AOR letter or an ecas change.

Dear Applicant:

This is to advise you that your application for permanent residence has been received at the Canadian Consulate General in Buffalo, New York and that a file has been created for you. Your file number appears above. Please note that this file number is different from the one that was assigned to you by the Case Processing Centre in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada. You must quote this new file number in any future correspondence.

Before your application can be placed in processing, a determination will be made as to whether or not you are eligible for processing. If your application is not eligible for processing, you will receive a letter informing you of the reasons for the decision as well as a refund.

They also include this link: http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/buffalo/imm/assessment_evaluation.aspx
I wasn't aware that my case was ever in Nova Scotia. Does everyone get the bit about getting a refund if not eligible for processing?! Wouldn't they just ask you for more info first? Is this my AOR or something weird??

Thanks!

Hi there,
We have been "in process" in Buffalo since June 11, 2010. We applied to CMC Mississauga in mid April. We never received an email like this. We received approval from CIC Mississauga indicating they were sending the package to Buffalo, and then an actual letter from Buffalo in June when they started processing.

I haven't seen that page from Buffalo's site before or heard of anyone receiving such an email. Is it possible that Buffalo has instigated a new process in light of the large amount of time it takes them to start processing applications? I know several people on here had been worried and contacted Buffalo with questions, and I am sure many other people did too. It's understandable that people are going to be worried about their applications when they go AWOL for a month or two after sponsorship approval. Maybe this is an interim message to let people know that your application is safe and sound in Buffalo, it's just waiting in the queue with all the others. Just a thought anyway.

But I can't imagine why they mention NS. Is this an error?

But wow that office seems to be crazy busy right now. It seems like it is taking them longer to do things than it did in the threads from the past couple of years that I reviewed before sending my application.

I did email them with an address change and asked about my file. At the time I got a form letter saying to give them 30 weeks for AOR to come in the mail. This was last week, so maybe this is another update? Maybe the NS thing is just a mistake... but I do hope they have opened my file!!

So you did have the last bit about eligible for processing? I guess it is AOR then, and the NS thing was a mistake? In any case, I have a file number so I guess that means they're working on it!

I did a search and found someone who got a similar email, but they applied under the skilled worker class. Maybe they just used the wrong form letter? Gosh, I'm confused...

Does your name or your sponsor's name appear anywhere in this email? Is it possible that they sent this to the wrong recipient? I think you should call and ask about this, especially since you sent your application to CPC Mississauga and NOT Sydney. What also strikes me as odd is the second paragraph about determining your eligibility for processing. It's my understanding that initial assessment/review of your file happens in Mississauga when they also determine sponsor's eligibility. I would inquire while you have them on the phone about the name linked to that new file number just to be sure it is yours.

Good luck sorting this out. Allison

I sent them a case specific email inquiry with the new file number. I may try to give them a call. My name does appear in the subject of the email as well as the body of the email, before the form letter.

Would I call the general CIC number? Would they know what is happening in Buffalo?

cic won't know anything about what's happening in Buffalo...I even had a phone rep get snippy with me when I very nicely asked about it. your case specific email should be fine in figuring out what's going on since Buffalo doesn't answer phone calls.

Sorry to confuse; I knew it came as an email. I'm just used to thinking of the content as a letter, but delivered via email. I agree with plumosa. Hope for a response from your inquiry to B'lo.

Thanks guys. Hopefully I'll get some clarification soon.

I swear! With this and all the other mistakes I've heard about on here, I wonder how people at CIC keep their jobs. I know I'd be canned for making mistakes like that!

This is a form letter for skilled worker applications. Fax or email the embassy and let them know you have received this in error as you are applying through the Family Class, Spousal Category. Ask them to re-confirm your file number and to please forward you an Acknowledgement of Receipt letter. Send a copy of the letter with your fax, quote your name, date of birth, sponsor's name, date of birth and the fees receipt number. They will fix this.
